**An extraordinary experience**
In the Stadtschmiede, a red-hot piece of iron - the beer spike - is briefly dipped into a glass of beer. The residual sugar in the beer caramelizes and some of the carbon dioxide escapes. This gives the beer a hoppy, caramel-like taste, a fine-pored head and a drinkable finish.
