The rail link between Timelkam and Ampflwang was constructed to facilitate the exploitation of Hausruck's abundant coal pits. In the early 1920s, Ampflwang was home to Europe's most modern coal mining industry. The ÖGEG has taken over the railroad track and all related buildings. Since 1996 they have been working on creating an Austrian Railway Museum that is to be opened in 2006 within the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition. On Sundays from July to September, visitors can get aboard this historic train for a memorable steam or diesel-driven ride. Bicycles are transported in the train for free. Schedules are timed to Austrian Railway trains and can be changed without prior notice.
