In April 2014, a museum dedicated to the memory of Franz Winkelmeier was opened in Lengau in the form of the Giant Museum. He went down in history as the "Giant of Lengau", as he was the largest European who ever lived.

The life and early death of Franz Winkelmeier, who began to grow to 2.58 metres as a teenager following an infectious disease, is traced by means of a film and audio station as well as lots of other information. The original objects from the personal possessions of the "Giant of Lengau" are particularly impressive, such as the sofa and a travelling suitcase, the size 59 shoes and a range of other utensils.
Franz Winkelmeier's biography symbolises tolerance and respect for otherness, a message that the museum aims to convey to its visitors.
