Between Leonstein and Steinbach an der Steyr, the wild and romantic Steyr Gorge is a protected nature reserve. This section of the river is particularly worth seeing because of its unique landscape. The inaccessible corners are popular breeding grounds for rare water birds. The Steyr Gorge is characterised by gravel banks and islands. Bird species like the common merganser or the sandpiper love this. Particularly impressive is the colourful kingfisher, which has also found a suitable habitat here. The special wildlife combined with the breathtaking landscape is what makes the Steyr Gorge so attractive to nature lovers.
