The Gressn Chapel with soldiers' memorial is located at the edge of the forest next to the hiking trail from Gressn towards Eidenberg

The chapel was built in 1875 for the following reason:

There was a pear tree below the farm from which a branch grew over the thatched stable building. One evening during the stable work, a heavy thunderstorm passed over Eidenberg. The co-owner at the time, Mrs. Kitzmüller, was milking the cows (which had to be done by hand). Suddenly, lightning struck the pear tree and the cattle were so frightened that the cow, which was being milked, kicked out with both hind legs and the farmer's wife and her stool came to rest on the manure alley. At that moment, people thought the whole house was about to go up in flames. But a guardian angel protected the farmer's wife and the farm and nothing worse happened.

Out of gratitude, it was decided to build a chapel. The bricklayer Mathias Anzinger (owner of the Au Franzl estate) built the chapel with the then farm owner Leopold Kitzmüller. Hence the initials on the chapel (MA + LK). Originally, the chapel stood on the other side of the path, facing the forest. A chestnut tree was planted on each side.

In the summer of 1978, the chapel was to be renovated. The condition was so bad. The trees were lifting the entire building with their roots, so a new location was decided upon.

In consultation with the forester and parish priest of Eidenberg at the time, the chapel was rebuilt on Stiftsgrund.

Next to the Gressn Chapel is the **peace memorial in the coffin of** three child soldiers from Saxony. Next to a black grave plaque is a colorful rainbow. This spans a fault line and connects two different stones. The glass of the rainbow shining brightly in the sun brings color to the sad story.
