However, a short secured section requires surefootedness and a head for heights. **Quality of experience:** **** **Recommended season:** - April - May - June - July - August - September - October **Properties:** - Multi-stage route - Scenic - Refreshment stops available **Description:** A short ascent and a long downhill hike that once again shows all the diversity of the Salzkammergut mountains.**Directions:** From the **Steyrerhütte** you hike on path no. 433 up into the large Alpine basin below the Kasberg and the Schwalbenmauer. Ascending to the left, you reach the rise in front of the **Roßschopf** (1,647 m), the southern subpeak of the massif (great view to the Groß Priel rising directly opposite). To the right over the green ridge to the large metal cross crowning the **Kasberg** (1,747 m). 1:00 h descent on path no. 431 over the gently sloping and larch-covered northeast ridge to a junction. Left between doline basins and rugged karst plates further downward. Through a larch corridor you arrive on the left at the not particularly difficult "key point" (steel cables). Under the western ridge it continues and then to the right into the lift area around the **Sepp-Huber-Hütte** (1,506 m). The continuing path to the Hochberghaus leads to the nearby basin with the storage pond, then on a hiking trail over the hill of the **Benn Nocks** (1,500 m) and then on a gravel road (ski slope) near the cable car down to the hunting hut **Farrenau** (1,180 m). Passing by another storage pond on the left, through the east side of the **Farrenaubühel** (1,287 m), and down to the inviting **Hochberghaus** (1,132 m). 2:30 h The descent path no. 431 towards Grünau now shortcuts a curve of the Farrenau mountain road, follows it downhill on the right and then turns left over a forest ridge down the valley. Soon it goes right through the steep slopes below the Scheiterwiedberg – crossing some forestry roads – down to a meadow (780 m). There turn left and go downhill near the ski slope to the forest road, on which you reach the Schindlbach road in the valley. Left to the parish church of **Grünau im Almtal** (528 m), where stage 22 of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail ends and stage 23 begins. 2:00 h **Tip:** **Note**: Bus connection (line 535) between Grünau im Almtal and the Jagersimmerl. **Safety guidelines:** - In alpine terrain, watch out for danger from rockfall. - Until early summer, you can encounter steep snowfields or firn grooves there – especially in icy conditions, there is acute danger of falling and thus fatal risk! - Due to storm damage, forestry work or construction measures, individual path sections may be temporarily difficult or even impassable. - Cows on the alpine pastures are often curious. Due to mother cow husbandry, they develop a strong instinct to protect their calves. Move calmly through cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance from the animals, and do not pet calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening behaviour (scratching, stamping), slowly walk backwards away (do not turn your back). Keep dogs on a leash; they must not bark at or chase cows. In case of an attack, you must definitely let the dogs off the leash. **Equipment:** For all stages you need hiking or mountain boots with profiled rubber soles as well as wind- and rainproof clothing. Spare clothes for changing and a small first aid kit should also be in the backpack. How much provisions you pack depends on the number of refreshment points. You should definitely take enough to drink.
