For centuries, Steyr was the centre of iron processing and the iron trade. The beautiful town houses on the town square still bear witness to the former wealth of the inhabitants. All architectural epochs are represented: Renaissance meets Baroque, Gothic meets Rococo.Directions:
At the start of the tour on the historic town square, you can admire the Bummerlhaus - a Gothic town house from the 13th century.

Through the Enge Gasse for the route to Zwischenbrücken - a small square at the confluence of the Enns and Steyr rivers, between the Enns and Steyr bridges. This is where the city centre ends and in the 19th century the square was still bordered by two mighty city gates.

On the other side of the river stands St Michael's Church - the two-towered former Jesuit church characterises the townscape of Steyr with its elevated position at the mouth of the Steyr into the Enns.

The tour continues to the Tabor Tower on the Tabor hill, which has existed since around 1480. It used to be part of the town fortifications and the watchtower of the fire station, today it houses a restaurant. From the Tabor Tower, the path leads past the Jewish cemetery to the Schnallen Gate, which was probably built in the first half of the 16th century as part of the town fortifications in Steyr in the area between Steyrdorf and Tabor.

The tour now leads over the Schnallenberg and Gleinkergasse to the Museum Arbeitswelt and on to Lamberg Castle. The path leads through Werndlpark past the Bruckner monument to the town parish church - the church dedicated to St. Ägidius and St. Koloman was built in the 15th century in Gothic style and is the most important sacred building in the town of Steyr.

Via the Pfarrstiege, the path leads back towards the old town to the city museum in the Innerberger Stadl, one of the most modern city museums in Austria. The museum focuses on the history of the bourgeoisie and the importance of the iron trade for the town of Steyr. From the town museum, the route returns to the starting point on Steyr's town square
