Description:
In order to sustainably improve the infrastructure on the mountain and prepare it for future requirements, Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG is launching an important construction project in summer 2025: the first construction phase for snowmaking on the Frauenkarpisten slopes.
Here is all the information about the schedule, affected areas in the hiking area, technical details and contacts.
Construction period:
🗓️ From the beginning of July to the end of October 2025
⚠️ Important notice:
The Frauenkarlift will only be in operation on Saturdays and Sundays in July 2025.
Site plan Wurzeralm
Tip: For an undisturbed mountain experience, we recommend starting the themed circular trail "2 million years in 2 hours" in an anti-clockwise direction. This way, you can avoid the construction site traffic and reach the Brunnsteinersee lake and the continuing hiking trails in a relaxed manner.
The climbing area at the Rote Wand saddle has existed for decades and offers sport climbing routes with good grip at all levels of difficulty as well as some multi-pitch routes. The climbing routes are constantly being renovated and extended.
The alpine character and wonderful surroundings make up for the long climb. And in summer, most of the routes are in the shade for long periods.
Please don't leave any rubbish behind!
Number of routes: (min.) 34
route lengths: from 10m to 30m, sector Rote-Wand-Sattel up to 3 pitches
protection: very good, all routes are equipped with stainless steel lugs and HSA M10mm anchors, deviators/intermediate stands with two drill lugs
rock structure: grippy limestone
equipment: 60m single rope, 12 quickdraws, climbing helmet
Character: Vertical to overhanging wall climbing, water grooves, some small holds on the more difficult routes, climbing skills are required
Best time of year: Summer and autumn; due to its north-west orientation, the wall is shady for a long time in summer - you only start to sweat on the approach.
The ascent to the wall is an experience in itself: A wonderful hike takes you from the Wurzeralm mountain station past the Brunnsteinersee lake and over the Rote Wand saddle to the foot of the Rote Wand.
Calculate with 2 hours.
Tip: The ascent with the funicular railway from Spital am Pyhrn is free with the Pyhrn-Priel Cards free of charge.
Alternatively, you can also ascend from Gleikersee via the Dümlerhütte. However, it is a total of around 950 metres to the foot of the wall. For a multi-day climb, the Dümlerhütte is a good place to stay overnight, as it is only around 45 minutes from there to the base of the wall.
