Parish Church of St. Georgen bei Grieskirchen

St. Georgen bei Grieskirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The beautiful parish church of Grieskirchen was founded around 1255 by the Jörger family. In 1357, Helmhard VI Jörger made the castle chapel of St Georgen a parish church. In 1560, the castle chapel became too small and a choir building had to be erected to the west. From 1628 to 1678, the parish of St. Georgen was attached to the parish of Hofkirchen. Since 1678, St. Georgen bei Grieskirchen has been an independent parish.

This church, which still exists today, is an unusually tall brick building. The Jörgers had learnt about this construction method during their visits to Wittenberg. The church building corresponds to the North German Brick Gothic style.
