Swimming as a leisure activity has a long tradition in Gaspoltshofen. As early as 1935, the - for the time - extremely modern outdoor pool complex was built near the town centre on the Innbach stream. As in many other communities, the pool was always maintained, but major investments could not be made; other cost-intensive municipal tasks and construction projects took precedence.The progressive ageing of the water treatment system and the pools and the increasingly desolate condition of the buildings made a renovation and redesign of the pool complex unavoidable; in the meantime, hygiene and water law guidelines had also changed and the demands of visitors for a modern leisure centre had increased.
The refurbishment and redesign of the Gaspoltshofen outdoor pool is in many respects exemplary for numerous small and medium-sized pool communities. The planning and realisation of the construction project proves that it is possible to create fun and family-friendly attractions while keeping exactly to budget - and without compromising on quality or incurring horrendous operating costs later on.
The swimming season at the outdoor pool, which opened in 1996, starts at the beginning of May and ends at the end of August or beginning of September (depending on the weather). During this period, the outdoor pool is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. - except in bad weather.
