HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF TAUFKIRCHEN

The historical traces lead back to Roman times. Taufkirchen once belonged to the Roman province of "Norikum Ripense" and was criss-crossed by a network of roads that were primarily intended for military use.

782
Two documents from the Carolingian period provide the first evidence of the existence of the two parishes of Hofkirchen a.d.Trattnach and Taufkirchen a.d.Trattnach. Taufkirchen is first mentioned in documents as "Taufkirchen iuxta dretnach" in 1260.

40 churches, vicarages and 128 villages were burnt down by the "rampant hordes of Colonel Haslang", including the vicarages of Taufkirchen and Kallham as well as Roith Castle. It was the middle of the Thirty Years' War.
