The "Teichstätt wetland" nature reserve is located in the municipality of Lengau in the district of Braunau am Inn, Upper Austria. It covers an area of around 26.4 hectares and was created as a near-natural flood retention basin on the Schwemmbach stream between Munderfing and Friedburg.
The area is characterized by its diverse wetland biotopes and serves as an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species. It also offers opportunities for nature-related leisure activities such as hiking and observing the local flora and fauna.
From flood protection to local recreation areaIn the Heiligenstatt/Aug area, a retention and infiltration basin with a capacity of around three million cubic metres was built to improve flood protection. The facility next to the B 147 between Teichstätt and Aug is characterised by its near-natural structure. It is particularly suitable for short walks and for observing the wide variety of birdlife. A nature trail leads through the recreation area and helps to identify interesting plant species.
In winter, the frozen water surface is populated by curlers, ice skaters and walkers.
