Eggerding is located on the edge of the district of Schärding and borders on the district of Ried im Innkreis. The municipality is home to 1,300 inhabitants in an area of around 22 square kilometres. Eggerding is a typical rural community for this area with a high proportion of farms and several small and medium-sized businesses spread across the entire municipality.
Historically, "Eckharding" was first mentioned in 1190. The current municipal coat of arms was originally the coat of arms of the "Hacklöder", who were granted the right to bear this coat of arms in 1541.
