Probably the most beautiful legend in Peuerbach centres around the "Urtln":
Legend has it that the name "Urtl" is derived from "judgement": A man sentenced to death, who had killed his brother out of jealousy, promised the population suffering from water shortages a never-ending source of water. When this was actually found, the offender was pardoned. Since then, the spring has bubbled cool and fresh, and everyone who drinks from it remains connected to the town of Peuerbach.
Three such "Urtl basins" are freely accessible, one of which is the "Bäcker-Urtl". A "Bäckerschupfkorb" can be seen in the roof truss of the well house - in the Middle Ages, bakers were punished in such baskets for inferior bread. At the opening of the new well house, the master baker from the bakery opposite was "shoved" with it - without any offence, just for the amusement of the visitors.
The tour of the "Urtln" can be summarised as part of the town walk "Mystical search for clues in Peuerbach". Brochures can be collected from the town hall or requested from the tourist office.
