Höllerersee
5120 St. Pantaleon
Lake Höllerersee is located in the Braunau district of Upper Austria, on the border with the state of Salzburg. It covers an area of 0.2 square kilometers and is about 21 meters deep.
Lake Höllerersee is a wonderful swimming lake. It is surrounded by forests and is therefore sheltered from the wind. As a result, the lake has a pleasant temperature and good water quality.
Due to the lake’s great depth relative to its surface area, a rare phenomenon occurs: at a depth of about ten meters, the water below does not mix with the water above it. The lake is fed solely by groundwater; there are no outflows.
Fishing is one of the most popular recreational activities at Höllerersee. The lake is home to carp, tench, bream, whitefish, pike, walleye, eels, perch, lake trout, catfish, and various species of whitefish.
In winter, Lake Höllerer is ideal for ice skating or curling.
