Nikolauskapelle

Waizenkirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Alongside the parish church, St Nicholas' Chapel is one of Waizenkirchen's most important buildings. Built at the beginning of the 17th century and popularly known as the "Versorgungshauskirchlein" for a long time, it is now known as the "Altenheimkapelle" and is dedicated to St Nicholas.
Masses are regularly read and rosaries and adoration are held in the old people's home chapel. Count Kuefstein, the founder and builder, has erected a beautiful monument to himself here. The little church has a remarkable baroque altar and statues and is considered particularly valuable by church building experts. However, the chapel has also seen less favourable times. After the First World War, for example, it was misused as a junk room, where there were even chicken and rabbit hutches.
