The 12 northernmost municipalities in the district of Grieskirchen merged to form the Hausruck Nord network association back in 2001.
The Hausruck Nord region is characterised by its scenic and structural diversity. The south is characterised by the presence of several leading economic enterprises and numerous small and medium-sized businesses. The cultural and social centre of the region is located in the centre around Peuerbach, which contributes to the fact that this living space also represents the intra-regional area of influx. The north of the region, on the other hand, offers ideal conditions for leisure, sports and tourism activities thanks to its attractive natural environment. This diversity makes the region interesting and offers numerous combination possibilities to achieve synergy effects.
Location of the region
The "Hausruck Nord" region is located in the northern part of Upper Austria in the district of Grieskirchen. It covers an area of 232.2 km², of which over 80% can be used as permanent settlement areas (excluding forests, bodies of water, moors and transport areas). Visually, this section of the landscape presents itself as a basin. In the north, from Natternbach via Neukirchen am Walde to St. Agatha, there is a ridge (altitude: 500-700 metres) which is a foothill of the Bohemian Granite Massif. Small rivers and streams originate here and flow southwards towards the Danube. The Neumarkt and Peuerbach basins are located in the southern part. The region is surrounded by the districts of Ried in the west, Schärding in the north and west, Eferding in the east and the "Mostlandl Hausruck" region in the south (remaining municipalities of the GR district).
