The first monument created in connection with mining is the Platte-Lorenz Column, built in 1873. Karl Platte was the first mine manager under the County of St Julien, Wenzel Lorenz was his son-in-law. After their deaths - already under Josef Werndl, who acquired the company in 1872 and owned it until 1889 - this monument was erected in their memory.
