The pilgrimage church of St Mary is situated on a hill at 842 metres above sea level and offers a magnificent view of the hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel and the mountains. The church is a popular excursion destination in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria, located on the Johannesweg, the Kaltenberg circular hiking trails and the Tour de Alm. Kaltenberg is particularly popular as a wedding venue.
