Pfarrkirche Ostermiething

Upon entering the splendid bright vaulted hall, you´ll feel that this is a peaceful place where you will be made to feel truly at home. The uniform building with its central nave and tower rising from the west wall was erected by master carpenter Hans Eggel and master bricklayer Joseph Filzkhotter.
The uniqueness of the latticework ceiling in Rococo style draws much appreciative comment from visitors. The ceiling also shows a mural that was executed in oil-paint on plaster in the year 1891.
The stained glass windows on both sides of the nave are lavishly decorated in Rococo style latticework. The detached high altar dates back to the year 1701 is made of wood and spreads over the entire chancel. The round arch altarpiece is flanked by columns that are decorated with superimposed rows of carved laurel. The entire altar is richly ornamented with golden stylizations of the acanthus leaf.
The most noticeable feature of the church is the wide tabernacle that dates back to the year 1769. It is adorned in Rocaille style and shows double pilasters, angel´s heads and elaborate candelabras.
Another striking feature is the Mary´s altar of 1765 with its curved entablature and reredos decorated in Rocaille style. The altar features a statue of Saint Mary holding the Child.

The rich variety and versatility of its altars, statues and paintings, its baptismal font, the pews and stalls as well as the organ make the Baroque church of Ostermiething a true must for all those who are interested in fine sacred architecture.
