In an authentic location, the "smallest Bruckner museum in the world in an original living room" presents an insight into Bruckner's time in Kronstorf, his role as a musical school assistant and the formative cultural environment of Kronstorf at the beginning of his remarkable career from a 19-year-old school assistant who, through diligence, perseverance, training and talent, became the "rock star on the organ" of his time and a world-famous composer. In its August 17, 1871 edition, the Linzer Volksblatt mistakenly moved the birthplace of the "world's first organist" to Kronstorf. The reason for the report: Anton Bruckner had won the most important international organ competition of the time in London and had become a "rock star on the organ" of his time. Five days later, the Volksblatt corrected the error, but took this as an opportunity to describe the importance of Kronstorf for Bruckner's future career. This brings us to the subject of our exhibition.
The living conditions in which the young Anton Bruckner spent 1843-45 as a school assistant in Kronstorf seem cramped to us today. He lived in a room measuring six square meters on the upper floor of the old schoolhouse. And yet: his time in Kronstorf opened up new perspectives for Bruckner, far beyond this small room. "Touched by the narrowness of this room, the Bruckner fan thinks of the later genius who overcame every earthly boundary and created immortal things in the realm of sound", said Kronstorf Bruckner researcher Erich Nowotny back in 1989.
Immerse yourself in the history of the young Bruckner's early days as a musician and composer here, at his original place of residence.
