Franz Xaver Gruber Memorial House

The village has dedicated the local heritage museum of Hochburg to its most popular native son, the renowned composer Franz Xaver Gruber.
The composer of "Silent Night, Holy Night", the world´s best-loved Christmas carol, was born in the Upper Austrian village of Hochburg-Ach on November 25th, 1787.
The house he was born in does no longer exist, however, the village authorities have chosen a 200-year-old wooden building to install a museum documenting the composer's life and providing visitors with an insight into his life and work. The first floor of the residential building hosts a number of original and authentic keepsakes, such as the loom on which Franz-Xaver Gruber was introduced to the secrets of weaving.
Visits and guided tours by prior arrangement only.
