In the forecourt of this temple-like house, the famous Tassilo spring still bubbles today, and its healing water is channeled up to the health center. These are the highest quality iodine brine springs in Central Europe.
The spring in its neoclassical residence has been used since prehistoric times and has been known as a salt spring since the Illyrian era. It was gifted in 777 by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria to the Kremsmünster monastery with three salt works. In addition to salt production, the water was used for treating scabies and for producing "goiter bread".
As a cure and remedy, the healing spring was first utilized by Matthias Steppich from Pfarrkirchen and the entrepreneur Alois Urlaub from Bad Hall starting in 1827.
In 1841, the Viennese merchant Maria Selig donated this spring temple in thanks for the healing of her daughter through the iodine water treatment.
During work on the spring construction, two coins from the Roman era were found (Emperor Antoninus Pius, 138-161).
