Parish Church St. Gilgen

St. Gilgen, Salzburg, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups

The church of holy Giles has a long history.
Mozart´s grandparents were married in this church in 1712, his mother was christened here on 25 December 1720, the original font is still there.

Hl. Ägydius was archbishop of the French city S. Gilles and is also titular Saint of St. Gilgen! The first documentary mention occurred in the year 1376. Because of the damages of the church, in spring 1767 the people began with the new building. First the new church was built and after finishing that, the old church was disrupted.
Right at the exit there is a marble table where you can see how much the Mozart family was connected to the church.

Church service on Saturday 7 p.m.
and Sunday 10.30 a.m.
