Between the Danube promenade and granite history
The Mauthausen landing stage is centrally located on the Danube promenade, just a few steps from the town center with its traditional inns. It is the ideal starting point for cycling and hiking tours in the surrounding area. The Danube ferry connects Mauthausen with the historic town of Enns on the opposite bank of the Danube.
Mauthausen was once an important Danube port and trading hub for iron and salt. The town is also famous for its precious granite, which adorns Vienna's magnificent buildings and supports the old bridges in Budapest.
The Mauthausen Memorial commemorates the victims of Nazi tyranny in the Mauthausen concentration camp during the Second World War. The memorial is dedicated to various forms of remembrance, collective history and knowledge transfer.
