Gosau is a municipality with 2266 inhabitants (as of 26 November 2020) in Upper Austria in the district of Gmunden and lies in the Gosautal, an elongated side valley of the upper Traun valley on Lake Hallstatt.
Community Organization
The community consists of a cadastral community, and (towards the valley) the hamlets Klaushof, Bärnau, Jagerbauer, Vordertal, Grafner, Ramsau, Gosau, Auer, Kirchschlag, Steinermühle, Mittertal, Ötscheranger, Kranabet, Hintertal with Gosauschmied.
The region is located in the Inner Salzkammergut, on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt - Dachstein Salzkammergut. The community is located in the court district of Bad Ischl.
