Rocks in the Thurytal near Freistadt
Legend has it:
One day, the devil tried to dam up the Feldaist in order to drown the people who had settled along the river with the water. But the giants who lived here wanted to annoy the devil and destroyed the piled-up stones night after night. This enraged the devil so much that he turned one of the giants into a mighty rock and hurled him onto the riverbank. The other giant, however, grabbed the devil by the horns and would not let go until both finally disappeared with a mighty roar and the stench of sulphur and never reappeared.
The devil's rock still stands here today and on some full moon nights there is an eerie rumbling in the area and then it smells of sulphur for days on end.
