... the outstanding view!
Victor von Scheffel (1826 – 1886) from Karlsruhe was a widely read romantic poet of his time, who, among other things, wrote the Franconian Song, the state’s unofficial anthem. Scheffel came to the Wolfgangsee with a friend in 1860 and stayed at the Cortisen brewery in St Wolfgang. His hikes inspired him to pen his famous “mountain psalms”, thereby leaving behind a declaration of love to this region. “I greet you, lonely Abersee”, is how the poem starts.
The Alpine Club set up a commemorative plaque for Victor von Scheffel. The “Scheffelblick” (“Scheffel view”) intends to call to mind this magnificent view that inspired the poet.
