The BSFZ Bike Trail Area Obertraun offers mountain bikers of all abilities a diverse and modern single trail experience in the heart of the Salzkammergut. Located at the foot of the imposing Krippenstein, the facility combines natural trails with professional infrastructure and is accessible free of charge all year round.

In autumn 2024, the former cross-country trail at the BSFZ Obertraun was transformed into a versatile trail area. Over a total length of around 1.5 kilometres, mountain bikers can expect five carefully designed trails with different levels of difficulty:

Turtle Express (green, S0): A 550 metre long, slightly ascending trail, ideal for beginners and children.
Rusel Wood (Blue, S1): 425 metre flow trail with larger berms and waves, suitable for advanced riders.
Earthmover (Red, S1-S2): 320 metre fast trail with smaller jumps, requires trail experience.
Billy Bonka (black, S2): 265 metres of challenging enduro trail with jumps and a Northshore bridge, only for experienced bikers.
Sportcafé Exit Trail (red, S1-S2): 675-metre-long downhill trail to the car park and sports café, steep and gravelly in places.

The trails were created taking into account the natural conditions, whereby 80% of the existing route network was utilised, even without cutting down trees. The clear structure enables bikers to gradually improve their skills. The trail area is also integrated into the "S218 Koppenwinkel Runde" and serves as an attractive access and descent to the Dachstein-Krippenstein cable car.

Offers for school groups

The BSFZ Bike Trail Area Obertraun not only offers varied trails for mountain bikers of all skill levels, but also professional riding technique courses. Training programmes specially tailored to schools are developed in collaboration with experienced guides from the Mountain Bike Competence Centre Salzkammergut. These courses teach pupils the basics of riding technique, promote off-road safety and increase riding enjoyment. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises on the trails of the BSFZ Bike Trail Area creates a lasting learning experience that makes it easier to get into mountain biking and awakens enthusiasm for biking in the great outdoors.

Opening hours

The BSFZ Bike Trail Area Obertraun can be used all year round, provided the trails are suitable for biking. Riding at dusk or at night is not permitted.
