Schönthaler Platz (Platzl)

Schönthaler Platz in Braunau am Inn, also known as Platzl, has borne this name since 2014 and is a small, historically significant square named after Jakob Schönthaler. Schönthaler was a key supporter of the Protestant congregation in Braunau and, in 1866, had the former granary of the Capuchin monastery converted into what is now the Protestant Church of Gratitude. The square is located near this church and commemorates Schönthaler’s contribution to the town’s history. It was officially dedicated as part of the anniversary celebrations for the Church of Gratitude and honors his commitment to religious and social life in Braunau. Today, Schönthaler Square is a peaceful place that serves as a reminder of the city’s history and cultural diversity.
