Stauff Castle

A castle with a history

Stauff Castle was saved from decay by the owner, the beverage manufacturer Kommerzialrat August Starzinger, through extensive building measures and preserved as a cultural monument.
It contains the market museum "Frankomarchia", which shows in several rooms the historical stations in the development of the important trade and industrial location. The name "Frankomarchia" refers to the Franconian settlement of the Hausruck-Attergau area under the patronage of the diocese of Bamberg.
The "Ratsstube", furnished in Renaissance style, refers to the old administration and jurisdiction. In another two rooms, exquisite ornamental and utility items convey a sense of bourgeois life culture and bear witness to the high level of craftsmanship.
The "Schulmeisterkasten" contains bibliophilic treasures and provides an insight into the school and education system from the late 18th to the end of the 19th century. The late Biedermeier furnishings of a citizen's room and examples of festive clothing from the same period complete the picture.

The museum is open every saturday from 15:00 - 17:00 pm, groups are welcome by appointment on +43 7684 6255.
