Blood or purple beech
Bad Hall, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Kurpromenade 1
4540 Bad Hall
4540 Bad Hall
Lat. name: Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea
This copper beech in the park has a striking thickening on the trunk.
Origin: Mutation of a copper beech
copper beeches have reddish leaves and have been known in Central Europe for over 400 years.
The red colouring is due to the absence of an enzyme. In autumn, the leaves lose their red colour and "turn green". Therefore, in autumn there is hardly any difference between copper beech and copper beech.
copper beeches can grow up to 30 metres high and be over 200 years old.
