Helpfau-Uttendorf

Helpfau-Uttendorf, Oberösterreich, Österreich
You can be certain of a warm welcome at Helpfau-Uttendorf whether it's just to break your journey or to stay a while! Helpfau first appeared in historical documents as "Helpfo" in the year 789.
Uttendorf was first recorded in 1120, however, there is evidence of a settlement here prior to the arrival of the Illyrians.
The place became a market town in the year 1481. From 1461 through 1751 it was home to the sovereign law courts. The dilapidated castle was demolished in 1745. History records that in 1835 a substantial part of the market was destroyed by a fire. As a result it had to be completely rebuilt and thus the place you see today is mainly of the 18th and 19th century. The historic downtown center is noted for having the most superb market square for miles around.
