SPIRITUAL HIKING ON THE DONAUSTEIG:
Former monastery complex, abbey church
The monastery in Waldhausen was completed in 1161 and, like many other monasteries of its time, experienced many upheavals. It was dissolved under Joseph II. In 1800 parts were demolished because the building materials were needed elsewhere. Famous far and wide are the concerts in the magnificent abbey church (e.g., Strudengau festival weeks). In 2000, parts of the medieval and early monastery complex were uncovered and large parts of the monastery complex were renovated for new purposes, partly social purposes.
On the "outlook circuit" you encounter mystical places for contemplation, such as: swinging stone, sacrificial bowls and the hermit's cave. Being alone – community.
On this hike I feel the power of being alone and the power of community:
- Sometimes I simply need my peace. When do I enjoy being only for myself?
- When do I appreciate family and friendships, colleagues, when do I like to immerse myself in the crowd?
The start is at the marketplace heading north past the Gothic parish church, along the monastery path (lined with 100-year-old lindens) towards Schlossberg – abbey grounds with early Baroque abbey church, meditation path with text pillars from the Cathedral of Baltimore around the abbey grounds with a view of the bathing lake and Sarmingbach valley – continue along the bathing lake heading north on the Unterhaas farm road to Oberpichler (view towards the abbey grounds) further Grabner in the corner to Falkhäusl and ascent to Falkermauer (large granite fortress at 700 meters altitude with views into the small Ysper valley) further via Geretsberg on the ridge heading south to the natural monument Swinging Stone (19 m3 rock cone which can be set into vibration with some effort) and to the sacrificial bowls – continue via Oberwittmesser to the hermit’s cave at Steinberg (once served as a dwelling for a pious hermit) and over to the natural monument Schafstein (350-ton rock block at 748 meters altitude) with magnificent panoramic views (small Ysper valley, forest and Mühlviertel) and further via Handberger and Kronreithner to the viewing platform (13-meter-high viewing platform with homecoming cross at 662 meters altitude) with splendid panoramic views of the towns of Waldhausen and Schlossberg as well as the Mühlviertel hilly landscape. Finally, the descent via Blechnerhof to the marketplace = starting point.Tip:

(Ausblickrunde - Wanderweg Nr. 6)
This rock group falls away steeply to the east and is about to climb a ladder, secured with appropriate railing.
On this rock is a wonderful view into the small Yspertal, which also represents the border between Upper and Lower Austria.
A beautiful, natural path one kilometre long who connects Markt and Schloßberg.
This trail is bordered by numerous 100-year-old lims and every season is spectacular to watch. Furthermore characterize numerous benches, "Materl", chapels, monuments, etc.
People associate good food with happiness, which is what I bring with my original Neapolitan-style pizzas. I pay attention to the highest quality and traditional ingredients, but also to regionality.
Demand is moving away from fast, cheap fast food and more and more towards experience gastronomy and experimental cuisine. This is reflected in my Neapolitan pizzas.
We pay particular attention to sustainability and will take big steps in this direction in the future. It is also important to us to offer meatless pizzas. The selection of vegetarian and vegan pizzas makes up almost half of our menu, so we can also make a small contribution to making the world a better place. We only expect the quality from our customers that we would expect ourselves!
Pizza and kebap fresh daily!
Small, cosy restaurant and garden, directly in the centre of Waldhausen.

Easily accessible rock groups located in a natural forest in the Oberwittmessergutes. On the top two stone blocks, which are separated only by a small column, about 19 m3 of stone sits the powerful, conical on.
The focus is so distributed that this block of stone can be set in swinging motion only by one person. This stone structure was recognized and registered by the state government as a natural monument.
The sacrificial stones are about 50 meters higher. These boulders can be seen several victims shells very well.

Tipp
This Abbey was founded in 1150 and called "silvia domus", "the
house in the woods". It gave its name to the village of Waldhausen.
With awe and wonder we experience today the beauty and enormous dimension of the early Baroque collegiate church, which was formerly part of the great monastery.
Even today, the collegiate church is a center of cultural life. The widely famous organ concerts and Waldhausener Advent with "Music for Christmas" on 8 December, you should certainly visit sometimes.
