mountain hike on forest roads and a well-marked path; A short exposed and secured area requires surefootedness and a head for heights.

"Kasberg" - that sounds like a spicy sandwich. But the name has nothing to do with cheese and nothing to do with a Kaser (alpine hut). It is derived from an Old High German word root, which means something like "Kar". And geologically the massif is also unique: The Gutenstein limestone of the summit area is deposited on younger dolomite layers, so they were "pushed over" during the unfolding of the Alps. But that is why hardly anyone climbs up the Kasberg - they all come because of the magnificent view from the summit, which is particularly impressive due to the unobstructed panoramic view of the north faces of the Dead Mountains rising opposite.

So we walk full of anticipation from the village over the small park behind the municipal office towards the sports field and shortly before turn into the Waldwegstraße and follow its course until we go straight to the junction in the direction of Irrer Alm. At the Irrer Alm the W 431 turns right and leads to the last loop of the Farrenau mountain road, just before the Hochberghaus.

After refreshment in the Hochberghaus, the hike continues on the forest road over a wooded hill into the valley between the Farrenaubühel and the Jagerspitz (ski lifts). You continue in the area of the ski slope and the cable car to the Kasbergalm with the Sepp-Huber-Hütte - on the old path no. 431 you can shorten a road bend and cross the Benn Nock, which is secured with avalanche barriers.

Then we follow path no. 431 further south through the pasture slope to the rear of the Kars, where it turns left. The short exposed point in a notch over steep southern slopes can be easily outwitted with the help of steel cables. Then you hike over a wide mountain pine ridge into another hollow. The view gets wider and wider; in the west you can already see the Traunstein. Finally we climb to the right over the slope to the summit cross. Descent on the same route.

Difficult orientation in fog in the summit area!

Rest options:
Hochberghaus, Sepp Huber Hut.
Starting point: Starting point of the panorama board at the village square. The parking lot at the sports field is also ideal as a starting point.
Destination: Kasberg summit
