Certified hiking trail Hiking in the footsteps of the Count of Windhaag!
From the starting point at the local fountain, the trail leads along Klosterstraße to the archway. Continue through the Meierhof farm to the Hausberg mountain with its magnificent panoramic views, rest area, information boards and telescope. Past the Hubertus Chapel on the Hausberg, the trail leads over the Hausbergblick terrace to Friedrichsruh. Then you descend to the castle ruins, the former castle chapel and the former castle ponds with horse pond. In the castle ruins, a newly built staircase leads up to the keep, from where you have a marvellous view. Via the old path to Münzbach, the trail leads past the rock face with the image of St Eustachius to Siebenkirchenblick. Afterwards, you reach the Altenburg branch church via the Schwertmühle, whose crypt contains frescoes dating back to 1512. The museum "Der Graf von Windhaag" is located in the old school next to the branch church. The baroque Calvary Chapel and the old vicarage are also worth a visit. The key to the church is kept by the Schartmüller family who live opposite. Past the 17th century plague column, you walk along a game reserve and Mühlviertel farms back to the town square in Windhaag.
