Tour around the Holzöstersee
Approx. 30 minutes
The village of Holzöster offers many opportunities for leisure activities, especially because of the moorland lake of the same name, which has a water temperature of 23° in May and 26° is not uncommon in midsummer. Anyone staying in Holzöster, whether as an excursionist or swimmer, can also walk around the Holzöster lake. The walk takes about 30 minutes.
The path leads from the Holzöster lido (buffet with large terrace) along the car park, where you turn left towards Hehermoos (goat pasture) along the moor ditch on a narrow road. The path branches off to the left onto a meadow path, then you come to a small wooded area, at the end of the wood the moor path begins, which is lined with wooden planks.
High-growing reeds, cranberry bushes, cotton grass and small pools with bathing bog prickly pears (you'll find out for yourself what they are!) accompany you along the plank path until you reach the Holzöstersee lake and feel solid ground under your feet again.
After a short section through the forest, you reach the buffet area. Continue along the children's playground to the campsite, where you cross a small bridge to a narrow hiking trail along the Holzöstersee back to the starting point. There are numerous benches along the entire trail, inviting you to take a break and enjoy the protected natural landscape. If you hike with your eyes open, you will take home many wonderful impressions.
