SPIRITUAL HIKING ON THE DONAUSTEIG:
Steyregg is located on the Upper Austria section of the Way of St. James. East-West-North route.
On the “Steyregger Round” you encounter the beautiful estate of the Pulgarn Monastery and the monastery church.
The history of Pulgarn Monastery begins with the founding of a hospital for the poor in 1301. From 1313, brothers of the Order of the Holy Spirit from Vienna and later the Augustinian Canons were active here. In 1332, a women's monastery was established nearby by Agnes von Falkenberg. Both monasteries were of equal status(!)
The monastery complex was set ablaze by the Hussites in 1424 and experienced a very eventful history of rise and fall up to recent times, due to wars and raids. Today it is filled with artistic and cultural life.
On the “Steyregger Round” I let myself be moved by lightness.
The path comes to meet me – I do not have to laboriously push through it.
- I pay attention to my feet and try to move forward with light steps
- How heavy is my footwear, does it feel lighter with lighter shoes?
- How heavy is my backpack? – Do I really need all of this I am carrying around?
- I keep breathing to let lightness into my chest and abdomen through each breath, to ease myself, to let go.
- Arms swinging, directing my mind to beautiful things.
- I walk with a light heart and light feet.
- I let my gaze wander into the distance, e.g. looking down towards Linz and on beautiful days as far as the mountains.
In Steyregg, we start at the starting point (meadow at the tennis court or playground on Mauthausen Street) and hike westward on Weißenwolfstraße. At the end, we turn into Kirchengasse. We leave Steyregg and go up to Pfenninger. At a farm, we turn right and follow the Donausteig. At a fork, we turn down through the forest into the Finstergraben stream and hike past a quarry back to Steyregg.Tip:
