Hiking trail

There is a circular trail around this beautiful mountain lake. Its a natural spectacle for the whole family. At the lake you have a beautiful view to the "Gosaukamm".

The start is at the Schleifsteinhauerhütten. From here, the trail leads through a small section of forest before reaching the moor covered with lickers. Here you have an overwhelming view over the high moor to the mighty Gosaukamm. The trail leads us along the wooden path through the countryside, past the Löckensee lake. The circular trail is easy to walk and also suitable for families with children. In the summer months, the Gosau slow train runs weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays to the Schleifsteinhauerhütten. The Löckensee in Gosau was voted the most beautiful place in Upper Austria! And it is! But watch out! You really have to earn this view with a strenuous hike!

The Löckenmoos can be reached on foot from Gosau in 2 to 3 hours. There are various ascent options:

Mittertal: On the opposite side of the Hotel Sommerhof, Schäffergasse leads up. At the end of the road, at the edge of the forest, hiking trail 511 to Löckenmoos begins. IMPORTANT!!! Parking spaces can be found right next to the main road - Hornspitz lift parking lot

Hintertal: Start at the Hintertal forest road. Then change to hiking trail 644, which will take you to Löckenmoos after 2 to 3 hours of walking.

The hiking trails lead beautifully through the forest on well-marked paths. Appropriate hiking equipment, such as good, sturdy footwear, is required.

The Gosau tourist office will be happy to help you organize a shuttle bus or the Gosau slow train to the grinding stone quarries. A guided hike around the Löckensee circuit can also be booked.

Please note that the lifts on offer do not go as far as the Löckensee. There is still an uphill walk of half an hour.

Motorway exit Regau on Salzkammergut street B145 towards Gmunden and Bad Ischl to Bad Goisern, in Bad Goisern turn right onto B166, at the Gosaumühle junction turn right towards Gosau

from Vienna/Graz:
Motorway exit Liezen on the B320, in Trautenfels turn on Salzkammergut street B145 to Bad Aussee, turn on Koppen street through Obertraun and Hallstatt, at the Gosaumühle junction turn left towards Gosau

from Villach:
Tauern motorway to exit “Eben im Pongau”, via the B166 Pass Gschütt federal road to Gosau
