Description: Due to the increased risk of falling rocks and the generally brittle rock, we recommend that you only walk the Hofersteig (path no. 615) with a helmet! Surefootedness, a head for heights and a good physical condition are required. A rest in the particularly endangered areas should be avoided.
Hike of the Bosruckhütte to Rohrauerhaus and on the Hofer climbing trail to the Großer Pyhrgas.
The starting point of the tour is at the parking lot in front of the Bosruckhütte (about 1030 m). From here we marched first to Bosruckhütte (1043 m, refreshments available). The first section via a gravel road east to Rohrauer hut (1308 m).
Soon you reach the Pyhrgasgatterl, by extending the Styrian-Upper Austrian border. Following the border northward over the Hofer trail (path no. 615 - please wear a helmet!) it is only through a wooded area, which later turns into a schrofes terrain. The trail drops steeply up to the lower summit. Once you have reached the shelter cave, the path is a bit more comfortable again and soon you have the peak of the Großer Pyhrgas reached (2244 m). On clear days, from here you have a fantastic view!
The descent to the shelter cave on the path of ascension. At the junction take the right and moves steadily downhill for Hofalmsattel (about 1425 m, route Nr. 614). Click here to go to the left on to the beautiful Hiaslalm (about 1280 m) and shortly afterwards you come to the gravel road that leads back to the starting point.
