It was here that Empress Elisabeth once used to walk, coming from the valley, and she would stop in Steyrling – at today’s Gasthaus “Kaiserin Elisabeth” for refreshments.

From the town of Steyrling, you will hike on a level road – in parts along the route of long-distance hiking trail no. 404 – alongside the Steyrling river through romantic Brunnental valley. Now past the villa belonging to the princes of Schaumburg-Lippe. The hunting estate of this German aristocratic family is still a popular place to stay for hunting guests of today’s high society. The idyllic path ends in Bernerau – and if you’re lucky, you might even be able to catch sight of a few wild animals roaming these hunting grounds.
