Schneeschuh Trail 3: Hinteres Edeltal (Rundweg)

The tours lead through alpine terrain and may only be undertaken with the appropriate equipment. The snowshoe trails are closed in the event of storms and/or avalanches!

Snowshoe hike through the rear Edeltal valley, via the west side of the Helmeskogel back to the Sattelalm. First, the hike leads along the inns, past the hut village towards the west. After the valley station of the Heumahdgupf T-bar lift, walk down the right-hand side of the ski piste to the depression and then turn right to the crossroads in the direction of the Riederhütte. After a few minutes, you will reach the junction between Vorderes and Hinteres Edeltal. Continue westwards (sign Hinteres Edeltal), following the course of the valley. At the junction for the Alberfeldkogel ascent, the path turns south-west, down to the bottom of a large basin. Follow the course of the secluded valley on the left-hand side to the south, with the Helmeskogel always in sight. Slightly ascending, the trail winds its way between crests to the foot of a pre-summit. Via a gully and a short steep ascent you reach the Helmeskogel Trail (approx. 15 min. to the summit). Following Trail 1 in a descending direction, you reach a saddle. Here you leave the trail to the left and descend in a northerly direction (Alpine pastures/ski area). This is the most difficult part of the route, on the tracks of the old "Kaiserweg", the terrain has some dips and slope crossings, so you need to be sure-footed with snowshoes. The last section leads across a slope down to the valley station of the Steinkogel T-bar lift. Past the "Ju-Schuh" hut, a short ascent takes you to the starting point.
