4 Mountains 3 Lakes: Salzkammergut multi-day hike

Starting place: 5360 St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut
Destination: 5310 Mondsee am Mondsee

The Salzkammergut long-distance hiking trail runs over four fantastic peaks in the Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee and Mondsee regions. Four stages lead you through the most beautiful landscape in the Salzkammergut. Walking time per stage approx. 4 - 5 hours.

The Salzkammergut region is a fantastic hiking paradise. Hiking trails of all levels of difficulty guarantee fascinating impressions and views of the region's lakes and mountains. It is possible to reach the summit on foot, by boat or cable car.
The new multi-day hiking tour "4 mountains - 3 lakes" takes you in four stages from Lake Fuschlsee to Lake Wolfgangsee to Lake Mondsee and back again.

From Fuschl am See to St. Gilgen
The first stage starts in Fuschl am See and leads past the Rumingmühle mill via Unter- and Oberellmau in the direction of Sulzberg to the 12er Horn in St. Gilgen. Tip: You can stop off at the Rumingmühle on Thursday for a cheese snack or on Friday for a mill snack with a tour of the mill (June to September). You can easily reach the village of St. Gilgen am Wolfgangsee with the 12er Horn cable car or on foot via Gasthaus Weißwand.
Your luggage will be waiting for you at your accommodation in St. Gilgen.

From St. Gilgen to the Schafberg
Strengthened with breakfast, you take the Wolfgangsee boat trip from St. Gilgen to Fürberg. Walk along Lake Wolfgangsee on the pilgrims' path to the Falkenstein church. This is open to visitors and you can ring the bells of the small church yourself. Via the Dorneralm and the Schafbergalm you reach the summit of the high Schafberg (1,782m) - this is considered the most beautiful panoramic mountain in the world-famous Salzkammergut. An overnight stay in the Schafberg summit restaurant is the perfect way to round off the day.

From Schafberg to Mondsee in approx. 5 hours
If you don't want to walk, take the cogwheel train down to the valley - the historic cogwheel steam locomotives are among the oldest operational locomotives in the world. Take the boat across Lake Wolfgangsee to Fürberg. From there you walk in the direction of Winkl, past Hüttenstein Castle and up to the Almkogel. There you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Mondsee, Irrsee and Attersee lakes. You then walk past Gasthaus Drachenwand in the direction of Mondsee, where a cozy room awaits you.

From Mondsee to Fuschl am See
The last route takes you from Mondsee via the Schober and Frauenkopf to the Wartenfels ruins. If you feel like it, you can hike to the summit of the Schober in around 50 minutes. However, this is only for experienced mountaineers. You can easily reach the village of Fuschl am See in approx. 1 hour on foot. If you feel like it, you can also take the Fuschlsee circular hiking trail - the 12 km long lake trail around Lake Fuschl is a wonderful way to combine hiking and swimming. Tip: Strengthen yourself with a smoked fish snack at the castle fisherman in Hof near Salzburg directly on the lakeshore and then take a boat trip across Lake Fuschl.
