The Marien hiking path connects the old pilgrimage sites of St. Marienkirchen am Hausruck and Altötting. It is suitable both for day hikes in sections and as a long-distance hike. Attention: The Marien hiking path is not a cycle path.

Hiking and pilgrimages are becoming increasingly popular in our hectic times. However, it is important for real enjoyment that every hike is well planned. The Marien hiking trail leads through wonderful landscapes, often far away from settlements. Therefore, take enough provisions and drinks with you.

Even the pilgrims in the Baroque period made their pilgrimages along the route of the Marian hiking trail. Halfway between St. Marienkirchen am Hausruck and Altötting is Maria Schmolln, the most important place of pilgrimage in the Innviertel. Today's pilgrimage church was built between 1860 and 1863 and is one of the most important pilgrimage churches in the country.

Along the way you will find many of the so-called "Marien herbs", which are described on boards along the way. Marian herbs can be admired in the Maria Schmolln monastery garden and in the Hildegard medicinal herb garden in Kirchberg. The Marien hiking trail leads across a landscape formed by the sea and glaciers, which is extremely interesting from a geological point of view.
