From the Grünau im Almtal train station, the path continues to the left, past the the partner company Romantikhotel Almtalhof.

There we cross the bridge and walk along the Alm to Fischerau.
Here you pass the Genuss am Almfluss partner businesses Pension Wanderruh and the JUFA Hotel Almtal.
The path runs parallel in the forest along Almseestraße to the next highlight, the Cumberland Wildlife Park

The Cumberland Wildlife Park is also a delight at the Almfluss partner business. A visit is worthwhile and should actually be included in the hiking program. A round in the wildlife park (approx. 5 km) with many shortcut options. Then you can also make good use of the restaurants in the wildlife park (only open to visitors). There is also a large adventure playground for children in the wildlife park.

Then follow the path (Konrad-Lorenz-Weg) in the forest and then a short stretch parallel to the road to the turn-off to Hetzau (access to the Ödseen lakes). Cross the wooden bridge there and then turn right, from there the path leads back along the alpine pasture and through the forest to the Almsee lake.

Past the mouth of the Almsee, you walk along the eastern shore, past the Viscope, from which you can enjoy a great and informative panoramic view of the Tote Gebirge, to the parking lot at the Seehaus. Continue a little further to the Echoplatzerl, above which you will find the hanging chairs where you can enjoy the view and the echo. The path is a little steep here and the gravel makes the ascent a little difficult!

Tip: A hike around the Almsee / length 6 km / duration 1.5 hours.

We recommend doing the hike during the week and using public transport to get there.

How to get to the Almsee in the mountaineering village of Grünau im Almtal:

We recommend traveling by public transport!
by train: from Wels station take the Almtalbahn (line 153) to Grünau im Almtal;
numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101)

From Grünau station you can either take the bus, the Salzkammergut Shuttle or walk to the Almsee.

by bus:

With the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service Route 60 from Grünau train station to the Almsee GH Seehaus stop, call the cab center at least 1 hour in advance on 050-422 422 and order.

by bike:
The OÖ. R11 Almtalradweg from Wels via Grünau im Almtal to Almsee, as well as the Traunviertel Tour from Schlierbach via Pettenbach and Scharnstein in the direction of Almsee.
The cycle path connection also runs partly on the main road, partly on freight roads or on a MTB route next to the road.

on foot: From the center or train station Grünau im Almtal you can comfortably hike the Almuferweg "Genuss am Almfluss" via Cumberland Wildpark to the Almsee!

By car:
Highway A1 coming from Vienna/Linz or from Passau/Wels - Voralpenkreuz onto the A9 towards Graz - exit Ried/Traunkreis - Voitsdorf - Pettenbach - on the B120 to Scharnstein - left onto the Almseelandesstraße via Grünau im Almtal to the Almsee
A1 highway coming from Munich/Salzburg - Regau exit - on the B145 to Gmunden, also from Bad Ischl on the B145 to Gmunden - on the B120 to Scharnstein - turn right onto the Almseelandesstraße via Grünau im Almtal to Almsee

Parking is available in the center of Grünau im Almtal or at the Grünau im Almtal train station.

Parking facilities at the Almsee:
Please note that a large part of the parking spaces at the beginning and end of the Almsee are privately owned. A daily fee of € 5 is payable at both parking areas at the Almsee.
