Interesting points along the way:

Legendary cultural life

Pankraz Chapel: The Pankraz Chapel, where healing water flows from a fountain, is surrounded by blooming meadows and stands on ancient historical ground

Panorama Road: The Sauwald Panorama Road, a route for explorers with a far-reaching view, passes through 6 municipalities. In total, 11 viewpoints invite you to marvel and linger.

Engelszell Abbey: Austria’s only Trappist monastery with its Rococo church invites you to visit. Don’t forget to try a sample of the excellent monastery liqueur.

Moar Rock: With a view of Engelszell Abbey and the Danube, Moar Rock invites you to a meditative rest.

Directions:

The path leads from the St. Aegidi Municipal Office along the ridge above the Danube valley past the Burgblick viewpoint. Through the villages of Tullern and Mittelbach, you reach the Pankraz Chapel via a meadow and forest path. Shortly before, there is the possibility of a short detour to the Burgstall ruin.

From now on, it goes downhill along the Danube slopes, past the Hochwurzen farm. The hiking trail passes the Marien Chapel "Magna Marta Austriae". Along the Danube, you hike from Oberranna to Engelhartszell. A visit to Engelszell Trappist Abbey is highly recommended.

Now it goes uphill on the "old road" leading back towards St. Aegidi. When you have finally left the forest, there is the possibility of a short detour to the Moar Rock viewpoint, where you can once again look back into the Danube valley. Now you hike back to the center of the Sauwald community. The inns Kellerwirt and Kirchenwirt invite you to refresh and linger.
