The Way of St James "Mühlviertel Ost" is a tangent to the Austrian Way of St James and leads from the Church of St James in Kauten on the Czech border (Waldviertel), via 7 St James sites to Perg (Mühlviertel) and then in Mauthausen across the Danube to the main route of the Austrian Way of St James which goes from Wolfthal to Feldkirch and then on to Santiago de Compostela.
This short stage leads from the Church of St James in Altmelon in the Waldvietel into the hilly Mühlviertel. The change in landscape can be recognised above all by the many granite stones that can be found in the forests. The stage ends in the small village of Haid, which belongs to the municipality of Königswiesen. The market town of Königswiesen (Freistadt district) has the necessary infrastructure (e.g. the Karlingerhaus for overnight accommodation).
