Forest air bathing in Kefermarkt

Kefermarkt is located in the Central Mühlviertel highlands. With the village of Harterleiten, the Aist-Naarn-Kuppenland still extends into the municipal area. Kefermarkt is part of several landscape organisms: the Freistädter Becken, the Kefermarkter Becken, the Kuppenland of Gutau / Lasberg and the Hochland of Neumarkt / Hagenberg. The centre of the Kefermarkt local organism is the vineyard, the effect of which is further enhanced by the nearby Buchberg. The village is famous for its pilgrimage church with its Gothic winged altar and the Weinberg Castle standing guard above it at the intersection of three landscape organisms.

Buchberg-Flanitz forest bathing trail

From the centre of Kefermarkt, follow the red-marked path via Kirchenfeld to Weinberg. Here a marked hiking trail branches off to the left in a north-easterly direction, along which you walk along the stream to Grieb, where you meet a road again. Turn right here and walk along the road for a short distance until a red-marked path branches off to the left in the village of Grieb and leads up to the Buchberg (813 m). From the Hoh-Haus you walk to the summit of the Buchberg, where the path to Elz on the right leads through the forest and later down across meadows.
The two pitch oil stones in Elz are worth noting. In Elz, we follow the K35 hiking trail to Neumühle and walk along the Flanitz to Altmühle. On the way, we come across a rock face labelled "Sesam tu dich auf" (open sesame seeds) due to the popular belief that a great treasure is hidden behind the rock face. Continue along the K34 back to Elz and the K34 towards Kefermarkt. We reach the beer nature trail, past the Vogeltenn and back to Weinberg and Kefermarkt.
