Via Maria - 10th daily stage from Grünau im Almtal, district Habernau to Frauenstein

Pilgrimage along Alpine long-distance hiking trails from Altötting to Mariazell

From Habernau/Jagersimmerl ( 577 m), follow Long-Distance Hiking Trail 04 (06, E4) through the Straneggbach Valley, past the Ödseen lakes, to the Almtaler Haus (714 m). From here, the trail climbs steeply to the Ring (897 m) and the Ringhütte (717 m) before continuing to Bernerau (622 m). Continue on an easy hiking trail along the Steyrling River through the Brunnental Valley to the village of Steyrling and on to Preisegg at the Klauser Reservoir, where we reach the Steyr River. Following the reservoir directly along the “Fischersteig” lakeside trail, we pass below Klaus Castle and the Klaus Mountain Church on our way to Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn (461 m). Take the Klauser Hiking Trail No. 2 over the dam or across the Ecklbrunner Bridge to the east bank of the Steyr, then follow easy trails through the village to Frauenstein.

From Habernau to the Almtaler Haus: approx. 1.5 hours; from there, approx. 1 hour to the Ring; another 3 hours to Steyrling; approx. 2 hours to Klaus; about half an hour to Frauenstein.
