The castle circuit is suitable for all ages and offers you some wonderful views over the surrounding landscape on a 2.6 km route. The route takes about 45 minutes and starts at the Luisenhöhe valley station. It first leads through the avenue up to Starhemberg Castle, from there down to Kronberg Pond and back to the starting point.
The starting point of this short loop is the Luisenhöhe valley station in Haag am Hausruck. From this point you walk through the beautiful avenue, which takes you on a straight path to Starhemberg Castle.
First mentioned in 1246, the picturesque castle offers a beautiful Renaissance courtyard and is also home to the local museum of local history. On display here are exhibits from the former lignite mining industry, rural life with the tools of our ancestors, as well as delicacies of local crafts and their guilds. You can also learn about the time of the Peasants' Wars and about Emperor Napoleon. In addition, the museum offers an annually changing special exhibition.
When you have finished admiring Starhemberg Castle, stop for a moment and enjoy the beautiful view over Haag am Hausruck.
Continue your walk down to the Kronberg Pond. The asphalt path around the pond allows you to walk around it. You can also take a break on one of the benches on the shore or the large playground.
When you are ready to set off again, the Castle Circuit takes you through the village and up the steepest market square in Upper Austria. Here you can stroll along and marvel at the beautiful colourful houses or stop off at one of the inns and coffee houses. Follow the road until you arrive back at the starting point, the Luisenhöhe valley station.
Although the Castle Circuit ends here, the Luisenhöhe offers you further opportunities for exercise and views. You can walk along the 3.5 km-long Path of the Senses and get active yourself at 25 stations. At the end of this trail is the 32-metre-high "Panoramablick" observation tower with distant views from the Lower Austrian Ötscher over the Dachstein to the Salzburg Untersberg as well as from the Innviertel over the Bohemian Forest to the central region of Upper Austria.
Although the route can be climbed in any season, winter maintenance is not carried out in the avenue or in the Schlossberg, consequently the route is not kept free of snow and ice.
